What is the origin of the Universe? The Universe had its origin in an explosion of spacetime called "Big Bang", and since then it's been expanding. The Big Bang occurred when the Universe was only about 10^-43 s (see Question 87). Currently, we don't have any consistent theory that might give us an idea of what happened before that.
