How old are the oldest moon rocks brought to Earth? I read somewhere that some of these rocks could be 5 300 million years old, meaning they would be older than the Solar System itself. Are there lunar rocks of that age, and is this idea compatible with the most accepted theory (Theia) by the scientific community regarding the formation of the Solar System? The samples of lunar rocks brought to Earth by the Apollo missions have ages that vary between 3.20 billion and 4.56 billion years (see Table), values that are compatible with the age of the Earth, which is estimated at around 4.5 billion years. It should be noted that these values are affected by margins of error of the order of tens of millions of years. The ages of these lunar rock samples were obtained through radioactive dating, so their values are quite reliable. Thus, any theory about the origin/formation of the Moon must agree with these values, and not the other way around.
