Resposta: Sem dúvida. Principalmente pela sua ligação à agricultura, aos tempos próprios, às Estações do ano. Ajudou muito os povos antigos a saberem a melhor altura para proceder às actividades agrícolas. De uma forma mais evoluída (tempo grego clássico) ajudou a desenvolver a Ciência e o pensamento crítico. Ainda hoje é assim, com a Astronomia a servir de porta de entrada na Física e em áreas científicas afins.

Question: Was Astronomy important in ancient times?

Answer: Absolutely! Especially for its connection to Agriculture, to the seasons of farming and the seasons of the year. It really helped ancient civilizations know the time better for farming activities. In a more evolved way, in Classical Greek times, it helped develop Science and critical thinking. It still does, with Astronomy serving as a gateway for Physical and similar scientific areas.
