Question: Looking at the sky in Brazil, in the Southern Hemisphere, in the city of Curitiba (Paraná) I was left with the notion the it is much "higher" in that region than in Lisbon. I would like to know if there really exists a difference between the sky having a different distance in Curitiba and Lisbon, or if it is only an mistaken impression. If this is true then what is responsible for this phenomena?

Answer: No, the "sky" is not at any specific distance, because the "celestial sphere", where all astronomical objects seem to be, is an illusion resulting from the immense distances to every object. In fact, it is the result of an apparent projection [nota: projeção tem dois "o" na versão portuguesa] of a three-dimensional Universe in two dimensions. But this doesn't happen at any specific distance. The apparent location [nota: o mesmo com "localização"] only depends on one's brain. And it's natural that all kinds of factors interfere, weather and others, like, for example, the sky's darkness and orientation.
