How are meteorites formed? The meteoroids that wander in Space (inside the Solar System) appear to be remains (dust) of comets, mostly, and asteroids, more rarely. Earth's gravity attracts small objects that circulate its surroundings and, so, crates attrition with the meteoroids. These burn up on the atmosphere (meteors), and the largest ones can even reach the surface, opening small (or, in very rare cases, large) craters - these being the meteorites.
