A RADIO TELESCOPE for MADEIRA: RFI MEASUREMENTS - SEPTEMBER 2005
Don Lawson
University of Manchester, Jodrell Bank Observatory, Macclesfield, Cheshire SK11 9DL
The “Site Survey Report” (by the committee of experts 14 May 1999) recommended a choice of three prime sites for further study (A, D, F/G). Radio interference measurements have been completed as part of the further work required in deciding among these three prime sites. A radio telescope at Madeira is a great opportunity to dramatically increase the quality of Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations. Based on these interference measurements only two (D and G) of these prime sites should be considered further when choosing the best site to build a new radio telescope.
