HALF-DAY EXCURSIONS

Ilhéu do Desembarcador (for Project AEGRO members only - maximum 8 persons)

Project AEGRO members will have the opportunity to visit the Ilhéu do Desembarcador in the eastern side of Madeira Island, where Beta patula occurs - a rare endemic species inhabiting two of the islands of Archipelago of Madeira, including the Desertas and Madeira island itself. This tour will be carried by sea with the collaboration of the Service of the Natural Park of Madeira.

Visit to Madeira Botanical Gardens [updated]

The half-day excursion will be held at the Madeira Botanical Gardens on Monday, 13th, after lunch, during the afternoon. The Madeira Botanical Gardens have become Madeira Island's most treasured and certainly most famous tourist attraction. Within an area of 80,000 square metres you will encounter a truly fascinating collection of more than 2500 plant species.

POST-MEETING TOUR

Full-Day Excursion to Porto Moniz (with lunch)

Price: Euros 45.00 per person

This tour gives you the opportunity to view some of the spectacular scenery for which Madeira is renowned.  Passing by the picturesque village of Câmara de Lobos, once painted by Sir Winston Churchill during his stay in Madeira, we continue past the vineyards to Cabo Girão, the highest sea cliff in Europe. The tour then continues to São Vicente via Encumeada, where the north coast offers breathtaking views of the sea against the scarped landscape. After a meal in Porto Moniz, the road forks inland to climb up to Paul da Serra, magnificent plateau about 1600m above sea level. Then down to Ponta da Sol and along the south coast to Ribeira Brava, a pleasant seaside village, before returning to Funchal.
