Pedro Telhado Pereira studied economics at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and the University of Minnesota, where he received his Ph. D in 1986 for his dissertation on determinants and consequences of pre-marital decisions in an environment with divorce.

He is Full Professor at the Universidade da Madeira, Portugal, CEPR Research Associate (U.K.) and IZA Research Fellow (Germany).

He has published several articles in collected volumes and in international journals (Economic Letters, Empirical Economics, International Migration Review, Labour Economics among others)  and has edited several books,  the most recents being "Returns to Human Capital in Europe: a Literature Review", ETLA, Finland and "A Reforma da Segurança Social - Contributos para Reflexão", Celta, Lisboa. His research interests include the study of the Portuguese labour market, emigration and social security system.
